Education and Career Accomplishments:
Mario Ruben (*1968) received his Ph.D. at the University of Jena, Germany,  in 1998.  Shortly thereafter, he joined as post-doctoral researcher the Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires (ISIS) of the Université Louis Pasteur Strasbourg, France, EU. In 2001 he accepted a position of the research group leader at the Institut of Nanotechnology of Karlsruher Institut of Technology (KIT) in Germany, EU.

He has been habilitated at the Université Louis Pasteur Strasbourg in 2005.

From 2012, he is a visiting professor of Chuo University, Tokyo, Japan and a visiting fellow of Nano GUNE San Sebastian, Spain. From 2013 he is a Professor for Chemistry and Chair of Molecular Materials at the KIT, Karlsruhe, Germany.

Research interests:
The research activity of the Functional Molecular Nanostructures Group at the Institute of Nanotechnology in Karlsruhe led by Prof. Ruben  is oriented towards the design of functional nanosystems by state-of-the-art organic/inorganic synthesis and supramolecular self-assembly techniques. The vision of the research group is to develop new concepts and advance research tools to master the design and the characterisation of molecular structures as well as their implementation and integration within the nanometer-regime.
